Pingback explained

I had noticed some comments appearing in my blog using ‘pingback’.  Initially I ignored the meaning of ‘pingback’ but then began to notice it more on blogs I read and wondered about its origin.  My understanding of pingback is that it is an automatic system notifying bloggers when a comment is made about a post they have written.

Sue Waters at The Edublogger kindly agreed to provide an explanation and demonstration of how it works.  Sue recently wrote a very helpful post about using online polls in a blog, As a result of my mentioning and linking Sue’s post, Sue will automatically receive an email to notify her that I have mentioned her post.

So over to you Sue …

Here is Sue’s post of What’s a pingback?

  1. I sent the screenshot through to you last night by email and plan to write a post on pingback and link to your post probably tomorrow morning. So you should get a pingback then.
